From the Files

Here are a few designs, some old and some fairly new. A couple things to come are lurking in this mess. This picture is a small fraction of the drawings that have been generated since starting this project. I don't think I could function without my Buxton Service pads!

  1. O_O! WHOA!! Frickin' awesome stuff!! I'm really digging the robotic-looking dude in gray in the top left corner. The one on the bottom in orange is also freakin' cool looking, I like the articulation; simple yet effective AND still takes advantage of the glyos connection system. I love looking at your doodles/sketches, it's like discovering blueprints for an alternate reality.

I'm the same way with some things, I have 3 pieces of cardboard about 2" wide by 4" tall in my work uniform pocket. In-between those are at least a dozen scraps of paper that are covered with doodles & sketches of ideas for new heads, script notes for photo comics & misc. other ideas. My friend always tells me he'll just buy me a pad, but for some reason I just work well with this method. Can't for the life of me explain why.

  2. These are awesome to see. Reminds me of some class mates from drawing class who always sketched in colors never black charcoal.

  4. I've always loved concept art. It's like getting to see behind the curtain, where all the fun stuff happens. You should think about releasing an art book with stuff like this in it, Matt. I'd love to have one.

  5. The Crayboth-Pheyden hybrid (Crayden?) looks sharp, as do the robots in blue and orange. The yellow sketch kinda looks like the Ranic fig you did once upon a time, or maybe my eyes are deceiving me.

And are those Axis Joint and Beanbot concepts? And I'm guessing the dark green is a continuation of the blue-and-orange at bottom, or somehow related.

Ah, concept art. It's like seeing the skeletal structure of creativity. Thanks for sharing this with us, Matt!

  6. The Blockman flavor in some of those designs is killing me! I cannot wait to see if/what comes out of this.
