Shuffle and Switch

Some hiccups over here have shuffled the release this week to a tentative date of Thursday, March 31st, at 9:30PM EDT. Hopefully PayPal will behave and this wave will not turn what's left of my hair an extra shade of white.

Many elements in this new assortment thematically follow up the February 2016 launch, serving as a little sequel in the style department.

The Armodoc also makes its return (in the slightly pearlescent orange vinyl with metallic paint shown above) and includes a matching Syclodoc head, so you can swap the noggins around for a different look.

Just about everything in this little round will be revealed before we go live.

Should be a fun week!

Family Night

Cady and CC both hit the drawing pads this time, each producing another round of our familiar aliens in action! It was the best watching the girls work on their stuff together, stealing my markers and pens throughout the process (their dad was also in drawing mode).

The particular versions shown in the images above will be surfacing early next week -that is of course if the kids don't swipe them all first. I've never seen the girls so excited by the colors on the figures before. Usually Glyos ends up losing out to the Zelfs, Shopkins and Barbies that populate the play areas around here.

I guess those Zelfs are pretty good.

Mission Details

This wave has been a long time in the making! Marc and I have been discussing an AD&D/ Frazetta/ Golden Axe inspired round for years, and since the introduction of Skeleden we've been chomping at the bit to finally roll something out.

You'll notice that the prices on the majority of the special painted figures are higher than usual, which is due to the extensive spray masks combined with full detail lines (and in some cases additional paint washes/ wipes on the Skeledens armor parts and possibly something else).

In general, the larger price tags shy us away from running assortments like this anniversary selection, as the risks run much higher all across the charts. With that being said, we felt like there was no better occasion to attempt a deluxe wave than in celebration of our 8th year of manufacturing these little buggers!

Regardless of what shakes out, it's been a extremely satisfying group of figures to work on, and a lot of fun finally seeing deluxe painted versions of the Skeleden and Noboto/Protoclone molds. We have never produced figures with this much decoration! They actually feel a little heavier from the loads of paint and lines. Plus, since we are running a special edition of the Kabuto Mushi we had to make sure that we hit the high bar our favorite Paint Warlord, Marty "VITAS" Hansen, continues to set with his great figure line. Thank you Marty for letting us give the old beast a spin!

The Orkmogg color pattern pays tribute directly to the classic hues our friend Eric Treadaway put together for the 4H's Mythic Legion Orcs, which were originally going to be a Glyos compatible line. Though the 4H ultimately chose to bump up to a larger scale, we wanted to honor the years of solid discussions and good times (we're still having them!) we all had planning out potential battles between our respective toylines. Our guys will just have to ride on each others shoulders when the lines finally meet!

My apologies for the list being posted on the day of the release, but all the parts of the machine had to be in just the right places to nail our actual anniversary date (and the wedding anniversary of Michelle and I). July 21st is a pretty big day around here.

Uamodoc

This special version of the Armodoc was put together by the incredible Ayako Takagi, true design genius and mother of all things Uamou.

A small assortment of these were available during the recent NYCC in October, and Ayako and I intend on releasing a similarly themed follow up at some point in 2014.

The paintwork on each custom Ayako created is absolutely out of this world well done.

Whenever I want to see the magic of true talent combined with superhuman determination, I just cast a glance over at our friends in Japan. They are inspiring on every level.

Red Metal

It has been a wild whirlwind over here for the last week and a bit. With the year coming to a close, the activity at the factory has been nonstop, as well as the action here in the house!

Our final wave for 2013 is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, December 1st at 9:30PM EST. 

Everything is currently on track, but with the intense shipping across the globe right now, there is a small chance that the release date may get bumped a few days. I'm hoping that's not the case, but the holiday season can create roadblocks from seemingly out of nowhere.

A full list will be up on Wednesday.

Over this entire week, we'll be posting up pics of this new round, which is paying homage to multiple classic toylines, with the most prominent being the Microman/Micronauts Giant Acroyear figure (which was a two tone blue with red accent parts). While studying the pantones of the old Giant Acroyear, I couldn't help but notice the parallels between the palette of GI Joe's Cobra and Microman's Acroyears. I've noticed the connection before, but when you get down to the details, the similarities are pretty neat.

The big event for me personally in this wave is finally running a Red Metallic (with pearlescent additive) Argen, along with the rest of the molds. Nailing a proper Red Metallic has been a bit tricky, as too much metallic additive pushes the hue towards a grungier red base color, almost looking more crimson/purplish than a true red.

Now that I have a few of these new Red Metallics in hand, I can safely say that they are a true red hue, akin to the Reydurran red we ran earlier this year. The pearlescent finish creates some vivid effects, which are of course very difficult to photograph!

Overall I'm really excited to have another metallic/pearlescent color to add to the build catalog. I hope you guys are in the mood for some Red Metal!

Concepts: Syclodoc

I'll try to keep the text brief on this one!

The Syclodoc was a concept that really came into focus in August of last year. I had been thinking about adding a new head to the Armodoc, so I did the normal crazy person pile of sketches, eventually arriving at the "Monodoc" design (though I also liked the simple straight visor look). I even took a few passes at some multi eyed heads, but the single peeper won out.

While I was drawing, I was also playing with some of my old Moon Platoon and Space Britains figures from back in the day. Both toy lines influenced the process, and of course as previously mentioned the iconic Zaku from Gundam was on the brain.

I was initially going to hide another mini visor face on the back side, but decided to emulate the Deep Space Glyan/Hub Set "helmet" instead. So technically, with the right paint job, you could make a beefball Deep Space Syclodoc by reversing the head.

It's been fun playing with the new Syclodoc, and we may just get some more parts to evolve the Armodoc again in 2013.

Syclodoc!

The Armodoc design has finally received a brand new head! This new sculpt is a tribute to the various cycloptic characters that we all grew up with, from the Zakus of Mobile Suit Gundam to Shockwave from the Transformers and especially those bad guy robots from the old Berzerk arcade game by Stern (and more than a little bit of Breakman from Megaman thrown in).

I sculpted the master during our recent trip to China, working on it in the hotel room at night and at the factory during the day. My favorite tools managed to make the trip, so that made the process feel much more natural, even though I wasn't in my normal zone. Thanks to Ron whipping up a quick dome buck before we left, I had a solid foundation to chop away at.

I imagine that this new Armodoc operates more like a machine than a free thinking being, created to do the bidding of some very controlling entities who don't like curious travelers...


 Specially developed for dark missions of questionable intent by Glyaxia Command, the Sycloriun Engineered Armodoc, or "Syclodoc", possesses nearly limitless destructive capabilities.

Through the use of stolen Sycloriun technology, this new breed of Armodoc has been specifically created to obey the direct orders of Glyaxia Command alone, not subject to the same core directives of previous models.

Moving to secure its dominion over all of Glyos, Glyaxia Command dispatches a lone Syclodoc to investigate a particularly strange gathering near the Edge of Space...

Metallic Approach

Above are a couple shots from the upcoming wave. The light blue metallic is close to the original Legion hue from back in the early days, but with a little extra kick. This particular color selection pays homage to a classic toy from my youth, that being Rom.

There are a decent number of colors in this release, ranging from a clear tint that seems to glow with neon intensity, to a color combination that has been long overdue (and a personal goal to finally hold in my hands).

New pics will appear over the next few days, leading up to the full figure list at some point during the weekend. The plan is still to release on November 30th at 9:30 PM EST.

We're getting excited to wrap up the year with this round!

Mission Details!

The production scarf is finally a reality! It fits on just about everybody, as the PVC has enough give to allow for some fun options. You can even reverse it or use it as a weird visor (or a loincloth/belt if you are into the barbarian look).

Hades has put together a special team to take on the Armorvors. Above is a look at a scarf wearing Buildman named Jorvannic and a  beefed up Gobon with a name that may be familiar to a few of you, that moniker being Cerberus. The build on the Cerberus is a contained build using one Gobon, two Phase Arms, two Gobon Blasters and one Hub Set. I still love trying to push those contained builds.

This a pretty straight forward release, with maybe one or two small possible surprises when everything goes live next week. Even though it's a simple round, the color combination of the black plastic, the aqua green accents and the white tampos really pop. I particularly like the Hi Phaseon and Axis Buildman (with scarf!) in this color combination.

UPDATE: I tweaked the colors in the photos a bit to enhance the green a bit more. The accent color is another one of those chameleon hues that's tricky to photograph.

Olive-Doc

The Armodoc from this wave may be my favorite color swap to date. I guess loving the entire spectrum of the color green doesn't hurt.

I still like to go to the supermarket with Michelle and the kids and stare at the "Olive Bar", which is literally loaded with a massive variety of olives. Not even their beautiful colors could get me to eat one though. Ha!

Edge Breaker

This vinyl build is my attempt at a more "heroically" proportioned character, something that would also be able to stand next to an original Takara Robotman/Biotron and sort of fit in scale wise. This is a very tall configuration as far as Glyos goes, clocking in a just over 11 inches from head to mecha boot thing.

The head (which forms the back part of a WARP Bike/Rig Runner) in particular is something that I've been wanting to pop on the right build as it was originally designed to look like an armored Traveler noggin (hence the three "teeth" and round inner dome). Jesse did a completely awesome build for our buddy Phil Reed of Battlegrip.com a while back that used this "head" on a crazy Devastator inspired configuration that was truly a knockout!

Chicken Palm

Heavy Runner in Reverse Mode. There are a number of other forms as well, but I think I like this BSG Viper influenced one the best of them. The Switch Pin looking like a big headlight (or maybe a Phase Cannon) is kind of fun.

Also shown above, an outdoor pic of the SDD Variable Suit, sitting like a baby chicken in the palm of my hand.

Did I mention we actually now have twelve baby chickens living with us? Maybe we'll start sending eggs out with the toys before the year is over.

Here is a little back story on the Remnant Pheyden:

When other runs of figures are done at our factory, sometimes there is a little extra plastic left over. The recent Cosmic Creators Series of the OSM were run in some really great soft metallic base colors, so when I was looking over the shots, I thought it might be cool to run Pheyden in the "remnants" of the green PVC that was used for parts of the upcoming 4H colored Astro Nautilus. The effect is tough to capture, but there is very light metallic swirl in the green, similar to how Legion Pheyden has a less swirly dark metallic flavor. If you guys dig these oddball style Travelers then we'll try to do it again. Special thanks to the 4H for letting us play with their awesome color selections.

Thanks as well  to everybody who was part of the drop tonight! The Travelers still seem like they have a little life left in their old molds after nearly five years in full production. Thanks for still supporting that little dimensional dude after all this time.
