Parking Lot Dangers

Saw these two rickety piles of twisted metal in a parking lot carnival in our area. Have any of you actually been on things like these?

Also, all the SDCC Non-Con orders start shipping this week.

  1. When I was 15 or so I went on one of those pendulum boat rides at a fair that was held at a church, but never any rides like those. I'd probably be more interested if these rides were a permanent fixture at a amusement park and not something that was rolled onto a parking lot for a weekend. I can't imagine them being as stable as the cemented/bolted down versions.

Glad to hear the Glyans will be on their way, I've been very eager to see what I can make with these new guys. I'm really digging some of the colorways you had sneak-peeks of at SDCC, very StarCom/Air Raiders-like to me. Can't wait to get some of those too. :D

  3. Favorite of these was the "Tilt-a-Whirl" one where it uses centrifugal force to stick you to the walls of essentially a high speed merry-go-round that tilts from horizontal to vertical.

  4. Parking lot carnival rides terrify me.
We have a perma-carnival/amusement park in town when I get the urge to ride a deathtrap :~)

  5. I've been on the zipper many a time. one of the best rides around! my friends and I would always have competitions with who could get the cage to spin the most times consecutively on it. My brother and I got it spinning the entire time once and then we puked up our funnel cake promptly afterwards

  6. I've never dared the zipper... it just looked and looks like a puke inducer... and now that I'm old, it would also probably give me a massive headache

as for the other one.. just not for me, I never liked the rocking pirate ships, so a flipping one was out of the question

  7. Oh yeah, when I was young that was the only way to get amusement rides in my rural area. The Hammer was my big thrill.
As a, ahem, wiser adult, you couldn't pay me enough to get on those temporary rigs. Permanent park rides, though: sure!

  8. The temporary rides are where its at. Whats an amusement ride without packaging yourself up like a sardine and cheating death?!

  9. Ah, the venerable Zipper. Hands down my absolute FAVORITE cheap-o carnival ride. You can't beat it for sheer craziness. But you have to ride it with another insane person so that you can try to spin the car even when stationary. Takes a lot of work. It was also a great way to meet girls since the cars were so close together. LOL

Went on a few variations of the other. One was called the Salt and Pepper, I think. Was okay. Not exactly my cup of tea. Rides that let you hang upside down while stationary are really uncomfortable since you hang by the restraint system.

  10. The Zipper looks to be a chainsaw from hell, in a way. And I'm in agreement with Omega: the "Tilt-a-Whirl" machines always were tops for me. Ah, physics...
