Sovereign Seclusion

After a good summer break, we're ready to fly Wave 75 into view next Thursday, September 6th at 9:30PM EDT!

  1. Bring on the Mechabon and Miniborg! Are there two different colors again or just one colorway for the armored 'bon?

So it was Commander Mraedis and his Mraedis Agents the last time this logo popped up. Are they still attempting to get back to Metran?

    1. A Mechabon (only one style) as well as a special Miniborg will each be on deck!

As far as Commander Mraedis and his crew go, their current whereabouts are unknown...

  2. looking forward to it! Just please, for the love of Phanost, make the drops a little earlier in the evening?

    1. Hey Gary! 9:30PM has been the go to time for years and really does allow us that extra chunk of pre-launch time to finalize all the little details (which we still occasionally miss).

    1. No Quallerran/Noboto action this time, but October is a different story.

      Delete
    2. I'm guessing that if Noboto won't be around, his big buddy won't be, either. Unless that's an October thing, too?

      Delete
    3. No Gobon in this round, only his beefier successor will be representing the thick-chanical side of things this time.

  4. Is this the drop with the LSA?

    1. LSA are also not in this wave, though they are still on approach from the outer sector.

  5. Metallic? Crayhunters? Interesting choice of colors either way.

What're the odds of having a full run of Accessory Sets to match the Mechabon this round? It's quite fun to build with...

    1. No metallics or Crayhunters, but a good grip of Real Type hues (4 colors) will be on deck.

Accessory-wise, full load outs will also be available for three of the colors (shown in the animation above), albeit in a couple alternative ways. One of these color selections matches right up with the new Mechabon for a building bonanza!

We'll have some new entries landing in the Buildstation as well.

      Delete
    2. Do the new entries include the Black Swings this drop? I'm so close to kitbashing an articulated armored Cane together from an extra Tana and other bits.

Also is there going to be another Mystery figure this drop? You didn't seem sure previously if the AP would wrap up with Space-only or add a few notable others from the original line that are Space-adjacent.

      Delete
    3. No black Swing Joint Sets in this assortment. Maybe Cane can sport some new gray Swings until we roll out another round of black!

As far as the Mystery figure goes, we definitely have something that serves as one last hurrah for the FP Space subset before we switch to the next Mystery Figure Series (which starts in mid-October).

This latest FP Space homage is kind of wild looking and probably not quite what you'd expect, but it rounds out the mix in a pretty neat way. It's a little hard not to show this one!

    4. If it's the orange/yellow Space Beast I'm going to laugh so hard. Also pure wallet panic at the news of three Toyfinity emissaries. No additional Darkness Soldier heads for Glyans, right?

    6. Not a bad guess! When the sample came in for this new Mystery figure, we were all sort of stunned, mainly because we'd never seen a production paint application on a Traveler like this before. Definitely opens up some interesting creative doorways.

      Delete
    7. I'm gonna have to dig through all my orange and yellow parts now...I'm loving the idea of a space beast Pathfinder!

      Delete
    8. Can't wait to see the Mystery in-hand.

Are there new Contained Builds for the upcoming Toyfinity trio? The Caliber Crusher was amazing, but I left that to George to kill his fingers over for his massive TFV collection. The triple Zeroid flight pod from "The Xenodeth Outbreak 2" has been tempting me to try and figure out from the artwork.

      Delete
    9. They'll definitely be a few builds to check out, mainly spotlighting the Mechabon interface. Been flying and driving new configurations around the house like crazy!

  6. This sounds great! Any Toy Pizza in this drop, or other collaborations?

    1. The Rift Killer will be ripping through a Dimension Gate to terrorize the rest of the wave, which also includes a trio of Toyfinity emissaries in their alternate Gendrone forms (Zereon, Force Defender and Mechabon).

    2. Thanks Adam! Your latest customs have been looking wicked. Really dig that unmasked Vector Jump custom head sculpt!

    3. Wow, thanks Matt! I had no idea you followed my stuff. I'm flattered, man. Really.

  7. Any familiar shades of PVC? The lighter gray reminds me of Neo Eclipse Pheyden

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The lighter gray (it is similar to Neo Eclipse) and darker gray both line up closely with previous rounds.

We've been trying to keep an underlying gray theme throughout the waves this year with the paint and PVC, to hopefully allow more cohesive building and parts swapping between all the figures.

Toyfinity's recent wave also builds well with this new assortment, following that same gray connective accent.

    2. It's not a ZED-style set of grays, is it? I remember those being a bit warmer.

Also, it's a bit hard to tell, but is the insignia red-orange or red? Just thinking up some ideas in advance!

      Delete
    3. ZED did have a little bit more warmth on the lighter gray, whereas the old medium gray is nearly identical to the new one.

The insignia is more on the redorange side.

      Delete
    4. By chance is that red-orange close to/play well with the Glyceptor red-orange?

  8. Looking forward to some more Buildstation goodness!Loading up on build stuff and the mystery figure will be my focus this drop.

    1. A good, solid, medium cool gray is the color for the latest additions to the Buildstation. This same gray is also the base PVC for some of the other figures in the mix as well.

      Delete
    2. Are we ever going to see vynil again?

      Delete
    3. They'll be a little vinyl coming up, but for the time being we'll remain focused on the PVC stuff.

Just been having a lot of fun working on different new molds and crossover projects, and they all happen to be in the PVC realm.

What vinyl molds would you like to see return?

      Delete
    4. Been waiting for a question like this, haha! I'd love a drop every once in a while with some vinyl building options with the stuff that works well together.. like one drop that has a rig, blocks, and wedges. If wedges are a tough sell on their own, any chance of like a contained build of a gun turret with like a block, 2 wedges on the bottom , and gun arms on the top? I'm rambling.

Other great minimal vinyl drop idead could be another like the anniversary drop with Armodocs and super crays together. The two monstrous guys work really well in tandem.

And if you're still with me all this way, if only one mold can return I've really been missing the rig runner. It could be cool to see some kind of Tron esque rivalry with 2 different bike colors.

These are but humble dreams of course, but I've always been a huge fan of the vinyl!

      Delete
    5. Rez nailed it! Armodocs and Supercrays would love to see them! A rig runner, that would be awesome as well. All of those in one drop, MIND blown and wallet empty!!!

      Delete
    6. Really any Vinyl is welcome, but Vinyl being a thing of the past, the Rig runner or Wedges and connector pegs with a block would be a special treat! Super Cray's are my jam, and always glad to see another Syclodoc/Armodoc or Big Rig!

      Delete
    7. I definitely would welcome a new Armodoc or Super Cray! In my time with Glyos there's only been one drop with vinyl and that sold out in just a few minutes.

      Delete
    8. Rez -I think you, Joe and I ended up being the only ones that really built on the regular with the vinyl options. The lawlessness of the material opened up just about anything you'd want to do, in many ways an opposite experience than building with PVC (lines right up with the outside thinking that you possess). That's what was great about having both choices.

However, as the years progressed, I saw the vinyl action slow down quite a bit, and that, coupled with the unit prices going up at the factory, forced me to rethink the strategy about where vinyl building parts really fit within the ever evolving equation. Things like the Armodoc, Rig and Super Cray all still move pretty good, as long as we don't run them too often, but the other selections don't perform at the same level to justify regularly offering them. I attribute a bit of that to the very esoteric look some of the more abstract items have. It's easier to understand a space monster than a ambiguously sci-fi literal building block for most folks.

I'm not staying we'll never run the wedges, switch pins and Blocks again, but when we do pull the trigger, it'll most likely be a deeper vinyl wave akin to the older assortments (like EMD/ZED/TFV).

I dig all your ideas and appreciate the input, Rez.

WWW -Super Crays and Rigs are in the plan as far as upcoming vinyl goes. I'll add your name to the list of folks that might be interested in the old vinyl building parts!

CC -I'm happy you're down for some more vinyl action as well!

      Delete
    9. Vinyl is great and would love to be able to build a base or bigger ship with the blocks wedges and pins but it’s way too expensive for my budget but maybe if you plan a big drop at some point giving advance notice several months out would be helpful for people to plan. I’m assuming there are others like me that would want more if they could save up for it.

      Delete
    10. Thanks for the response! It's always great to get a peak at the inner goings on of what's happening, and it saddens me though doesn't surprise me to hear that sustained vinyl drops arent really feasible on the numbers end.

My only counter to this would be that it's been so long since a big vinyl drop that a one off bigger vinyl drop every few years would surely sell- I see a lot of people who weren't around a few years ago chomping at the bit for this stuff. That said I'm always excited to see what's new instead of just relying on the old.

Hey, maybe we can get some ghost financers in? I pony up the cash for a run of blocks and if they sell they sell, and if not I'll build an actual house out of the extras!

      Delete
    11. Thanks, Rez! It's probably a good thing we don't live close to each other, or we might build an actual BLOCKHOUSE, which of course, we would build more Block based customs in.

Maybe we'll just order a ton of vinyl and have a mini convention for a few days out in the barn. I still have dreams of building a room sized Block Base that you could literally walk around inside of.

      Delete
    12. Just want to put in my vote for Super Crays

      Delete
    13. I would plan a whole vacation around getting time in a block base the size of a barn. Then we could have the chickens run through as terrifying aliens!

      Delete
    14. I always enjoyed Rig drops; after missing the Big Rig, I made sure to try and grab a rig/conversion kit whenever I could, not to mention a block so I had something to attach the extra guns/wings to :) Granted, I got a bit nuts with wedges one drop to make a bloody big spaceship that transformed into a tank and I barely have room for it... Basically, ehenever you decide to run rigs, ‘docs, ‘crays, I’ll buy them. Also... mentioned to Marty on FB... that Villser might look mighty sweet with a slightly scaled-down Delpheyden head... just saying...

  9. Call me weird, but I’d love to see an accessory set consisting of mostly hands. Fists. Hands. We have guns and knives baked into the Maxx Zero set (and robot hands), but something closer to traveler scale would be neat. A man can dream anyway...

    1. Hey Zen! We've had a long standing debate over here about the elusive "Limb Pack" mold. Originally, we were going to have a mold that featured upper arms/hands/thighs/lower legs/feet. It was interned to "finish" the various extra sets that we've made. The only real reason it never materialized is that all the tooling funds kept being rerouted into full figures and more accessories (which have been a big boost to the line in general). I'd love to eventually make that Limb Pack, but currently it remains on the back burner. If it's any consolation, 2019 is shaping up to be a decent year for other "unfinished business" related molds finally getting into production.

      Delete
    2. I’ve always wanted extra hands feet and limbs, as you’ve said we have more than a few extra bodies and heads knocking about and the limbs would be helpful but I understand that new characters probably take priority.

      Delete
    3. Could there be a "Limb Pack" that's disguised as a new Accessory Set? I don't remember if it was Centurions or another line, but I remember somewhere in the '80s or early '90s there being a line of toys where little drones or vehicles could combine with the mainline figures as armor. (I think a few of the Super Sentai lines have done something similar.)

Just spitballing here, but the Zeroid / Mechabon hands are not that far off in scale from the Traveler mold, and wouldn't look out of place alongside blocky boots with tank treads at the bottom. Use a piece to serve as the torso of the "tank drone" and the backpack of the "Treader Armor," and . . . well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here!

    5. Unfinished business? Will the Delphi finally come calling?

      Delete
    6. R - Great concepts there, and I imagine a perfect build-match for the Hub Set ( and so many other items as well).

Accessory Sets really have a ton of potential, to the point where you can make entire figures just from the sets alone. You should check out David White's work (a true left-handed genius). He's created some items that are very much in line with what you are describing, particularly one he calls "Assembler".

P-bass- I think I may have seen one of those guys hiding on the sculpting table...

    7. Getting a production Delphi has been a grail of mine, and I've only been in this for coming on 3 years! I'm sure you'd have no problem selling out every drop for half a year on a full production Delphi. I would love to see multiple heads, I personally like the helmet-less version myself, the ribbed texture on that head adds to the alien and other worldly aesthetic of the character. I'm not sure if this was an inspiration, but that sculpt always reminds me of Whales.

  12. Matt, have you considered doing small scale Kickstarters for limited edition fan-favorite or voted colorway drops? I'm talking simple here with a low, easily reachable goal, just joints and hubs as opposed to the amount of content in a normal drop. Since you have the molds already everything would essentially be a preorder for if the Kickstarter was successful. The rewards could be kept real simple too like maybe just a limited cray on top of your order for every X you pledge.

    1. I love what Kickstarter has allowed so many creative minds to accomplish. It's truly a revolutionary way to join forces with each other and produce incredible things that would normally be way out of reach. Incredible companies like the 4H and BFS owe much to the platform which we're all lucky to enjoy.

Personally, I like being involved more on the periphery of KS campaigns, as our current internal system is one that I really enjoy and know inside and out.

Also, I feel like there are a healthy amount of KS campaigns going on at any given time and I don't want to cause any friction by asking for additional funds from you guys when we already have steady sales on the regular that folks participate in.

When we eventually do a larger vinyl run, we'll absolutely give a big heads up so everyone can decide what they want to do.

    1. I think most of the figures and accessories should hang in there. Plenty of Buildstation medium Cool Gray Glyans, Glyarmor (armor only), Phase Arms, Axis Joints and Swing Joints will be loaded up. The Gray Hub Set is part of the new Miniborg, which is also packed with a special lightly painted set of Axis Joints.

In general, the paint is on the moderate to lighter side on most of the wave, with only a few figures getting some extra coats. That being said, there will be some all new paint applications that you might like.

Inspirations for this new wave were drawn from the new Diaclone seies, ASWS Solo and Spiral Zone. Did I mention that I loved Solo?

      Delete
    2. Great!! I'm relieved to hear that plenty of gray glyans are on Deck with axis joints, hub sets, and swing joint sets. Those are a lot of my go-to parts for building--not sure if you're on Instagram incognito or what lol. Also appreciate the heads up on paint apps! You must have seen my comment about paint apps and cost. I really like the new diaclone series and I can't wait to see how you've integrated that flavor. Haven't seen Solo, maybe when it's out on Vudu. C'mon Thursday night!!!

    3. Definitely looking forward to seeing how the Solo inspiration works out - with all this talk of grays and Glyans I'm envisioning some Mudtrooper Glyans. Or perhaps the miniborg will be inspired by Weazel? Bring on Thursday!

    4. Andrew -A little bird (maybe it was a Varteryx) told me you might have some concern about the pricing. Been trying to have Buildstation selections available more often so we can still have the cheaper option for customs and straight builds. Instead of locking in extra large orders of Buildstation items and then having them sit too long, the new approach has been to have more of a floating rotation of basic colors to choose from throughout the months, to keep things fresh. It seems to have been working out fairly well so far.

Any particular "basic" type colors you'd like to see offered in upcoming Buildstation assortments?

      Delete
    5. I absolutely love that youve revived the build station. I like that idea of a rotational selection of colors. The colors I'd like to see: sand blue, deep earthy reds, tan, green. Also any previous release base colors. Would it be possible to also put Villser, Noboto, and Phaseon into the build station?

      Delete
    6. I’d like to see buildstation glyans in translucent orange, blue, yellow and clear....as well as solid black, silver, red, green, and blue. But some if not all of this could wait until 2019 and coincide with one of those unfinished projects if it happens. A guy can dream can’t he?

      Delete
    7. Here here, would love to see some more translucent Glyans with matching Axis and Swings in the build station. Clear smoke or stealth would be welcomed. If we could get colors, I'm with Acro, Gliporian Orange would be rad! Hell if I had my wishes I'd love to see a Glyan and Traveler in Vossarica (minty blue).

Also I wouldn't mind seeing a black Neo Granthan added to the Build Station. I'm sure Ersico would be on board for that!

      Delete
    8. The renewed Buildstation has been a pleasure, the white offerings have been so much easier to paint than previous clear plastics. Personally I prefer the existing solids, black, white, and gray tend to go with anything. It's variety I'd hope for as the Buildstation evolves, we have never seen newer parts like the recent new heads or even some full new molds in the Buildstation yet. If I could get it in basic white or gray I'd have a lot of ideas for the Neo Granthan.

  16. I'm still crossing my fingers for the Villser extra set. Will there be new additions to that ever growing menace? Also been quite some time that the Armorvor's have been off gathering new weaponry, could this be the drop that we see their return?

    1. The Villser parts are currently in the "work" phase, and are starting to come together after a few shuffles.

As far as the Armorvor goes, I think 2019 will be a fairly important year for that little guy and all his new beastly buddies. We're really excited to open up a new chapter in the Armorvor arc!

    2. Sounds like there's many new ideas swirling around the barn. A new chapter!?! I like the sound of that!

  17. I love Spiral Zone, i'll have to get my guys out and see how the grays and orange match up. Any of that deep red from there uniforms included in this drop? 2019 Armorvor new chapter, we'll be waiting, Thanks.

  18. Matt - your spins on the Outer Space Men are some of my favorite versions of these characters. I know Gary has a very busy 2018 going on for the 50th anniversary, but please tell me you also have something in store, if not this drop, then before the end of the year!

    1. Something is lined up for mid-October that will hopefully make you happy!

The next few waves are actually linked to this new one, just in a slightly roundabout way. We'll be exploring different colors and themes, but a particular character will sort of emerge from the Glyan ranks as we close out the year. Something akin to the Cane and Ruger types.

  19. Diaclone?! Spiral Zone??! Solo??!!! Matt, come on, you have to give my heart a break here! You know my love for Diaclone, but Spiral Zone has always been one of those lines I wish I’d gotten into more when I was younger when they were released stateside. Solo was incredible and I’m quite curious as to what from the film worked itself into the drop.
