Dead Presidents: Behind the Scenes

Painting Warlord Matt Walker sent over these pics of our latest collaboration in progress. Getting a glance at what Matt puts into his production system is a real eye opener. Look at all those sticks! These figures are part of the second Custom Corps production run (Nemica Gobon being the first) with Dead Presidents, meaning all the figures are painted in a similar style as opposed to the blind bagged random approach to Custom Corps 2.0. This new run is actually a set of two figures plus a Phase Arm/Gobon Blaster. All parts are fully painted by Matt and clear coated for durability. Matt also modified the Gobon so that the body comes apart easier than the Nemica Gobon. Some other special parts to the puzzle will be revealed when the figures are released. On a side note, did any of you guys ever listen to the old metal group Stryper? I think they were the first Christian metal band and man did they have some gravity defying hair. Well I stand guilty of still listening to them (and TNT, Lillian Axe, Riot and T-Ride) and I've always loved that "Yellow and Black Attack!" angle they used to use. So yeah, this colorway was born from my love of 80's cheeseball heavy metal. Forgive me.

  1. Oh wow those look great. Definitely different. Although I do wonder about you saying that these will come apart easier than the Nemica Gobons... Mine was pretty tight as it was. O-o

  2. The bodies are still a bit snug, but you can take them apart with a little elbow grease. The next wave of Gobons will have an easier fit function on the body/disc connection and the shoulders will be tighter. These figures have the most precise paint application Matt has done yet. They capture the light in a very unique way and have an almost lantern like effect. This particular Gobon has an important connection to Scar Pheyden, just not the Scar Pheyden you may be thinking of.

  3. I love the new color scheme! I didn't mind the tightness of the Nemica Gobon. With such an awesome paint job I decided that was a display piece and not a "play" piece.

    Don't feel bad about Stryper.
I'm almost ashamed to say I own their first vinyl album(which was white) Alas my record player died several years ago.
(do you need some extra white vinyl?)

  4. You know, Stryper at least had an amazing guitarist. I'll give 'em that.

The color scheme of these guys bring back memories of Blacktron, and epic space battles full of explosions and little ABS bits flying everywhere. Of course, as yellow is my fave color of all time, the fact that Gobon will be utilizing it only makes it all the sweeter.

By the way, can I say how sick this all is? Man, I'd love to see some video footage of Walker doin' his thing, but wouldn't want to expose any of his secrets at the same time...

  5. Blacktron was one of my favorite Lego themes Roy! I still love those sets!
I recently saw that a Blacktron figure was being offered in some retro pack Lego is putting out. Do you know about this? Oh yeah, Oz Fox was a master on the axe!

  6. Matt: Yeah! They're part of the vintage line, a box of five figs for $15. Still have my originals, so thankfully, I don't need to plop down so much scratch for one little minifig. Man, I still remember when a pack of figs with extra pieces would run, what, not even $6?

And I'm one of the young'uns 'round here. I imagine they were even cheaper than that once...

  7. WOW! These look great! Can't wait for these to come out. A new type of Scar Pheyden? As in new placements of scars? Or new colorways? Hmmmm, I guess time will tell.

  9. I was, and still am, into ALL crappy 80's metal. My top all time bands from that time period (and early 90's) are TNT, Lillian Axe and Riot. Stryper actually turned out to be sort of faking their whole angle and it drove their true fans into a fury. Don't be afraid of the Cheese Factor Nate!

  10. heh.. they were faking the christian angle? I think I like them more now! but I love me some hair metal.. and I have to recommend you rent Anvil, the story of Anvil... it's very funny, and full of some awesome, cheesy metal!
