Dinner Companions

Took this one in the kitchen, right before the kids chowed down on their dinners.

The PVC marbling on these two looked kind of neat under the tiny kitchen lights.

Experimenting with the metallics and pearlescent plastics this year has been a big highlight on the production side of things. Just a little tweak to the old mix can result in some interesting effects!

  1. Looks cool, Matt! Just a quick question: how does the new red look combined with the pearl from last drop?

    1. Thanks Roy! The brighter red was selected so that it would really pop, especially when paired with the other pearlescent and metallic plastics. I think you might like the combination of the Ivorinium and Red Metal.

I'll get a pic together and post it up!

    2. That pic makes Noboto look a little impish, so I thought pairing him with an Ivorinium Noboto as an angel/devil duo would be pretty cool.

But now that you mention combining them, and considering the time of year, how about making some candy cane Nobotos? :)

    3. Now I want to see some Glyos Christmas Trees or Snow Villages!

  2. Oh man, I was hoping I could resist the red, I've got a faction/story for the color going on, but Noboto just looks great!

    1. Thanks Connor! We ran all the molds in this new red, so hopefully some neat builds will result form this wave.

      Red metal Coping Mechanoids ahoy!

  3. Just noticed the Gobon's shadow makes it look like he's radiating heat! Love those unintentional effects!

    1. The small lights we have in the kitchen do create some strange swirls of lights and darks! It totally looks like old Gobon ate a bad charge for lunch!

  4. This actually is one the best examples of what your fancy new plastics can do. Don't lose those kitchen lights!
Question: is the harder durometer intentional or just one of those "it's art, not science" things?

    1. It's funny what the simplest of setups can produce!

We've been intentionally experimenting with the durometer on the last few rounds to continue to try and find just the right balance between form and function.

I personally don't want the figures to become too soft, but when they are too hard it hurts your paws, so we keep making tiny tweaks to the master formula.

The additional special effects incorporated into the PVC mixes have to also be factored in, as they present a whole different set of variables.

I've found that when the PVC has a bit of a higher durometer, the vibrancy of the PVC is off the charts. This whole assortment has a richness to the plastic that is quite noticeable.

  5. I was seriously on the fence about Noboto. I'm pretty satisfied with the versions I have, but this metallic red just might push me to splurge on this drop. I went gaga over the Reydurran red because it reminds me so much of Char Aznable's Sazabi, and these metallics remind me so much more of that suit and it's pilot.

Char has always been my favorite anime character, and red(even if the suits were more salmon ha) will always bring me back to my first times watching those Universal Century series. I've stuck the first Syclodoc back on my desk in anticipation.

Since the Reydurran drop, I have been dying to get an all-red Pheyden. If you ran all the molds, that must mean there's one due along the line, right? That would make me one happy camper, as I really miss the little guy, this drop.

  7. Waitaminnit -- Gobon is only $8?! But he comes with paint apps and tampos? Is that too good to be true?
