Congrats on hitting triple digits! This feels like it's been building from a narrative sense for a long time but maybe more noticeably since wave 88. We've seen the Delphi return, Sincroborgs discovered(?), Armorvors working for/with Glyaxia divisions (even alongside the Varteryx), Kaisyriax manifesting onboard alien Biovessels (this white/pink tease reminds me of those bio-phantoms), a Gauss fugitive and a Crayboth emissary. I'd love to get some more hints about where this is going, how it all came about and some more details on the Sincroborgs - their source, significance and why some might take umbrage against them.
You have an extra sharp eye for the details that have been slipping out over these recent years.
In many ways, Wave 100 attempts to reconcile a bit of the ongoing story arcs you mention, while at the same time mostly opening up new ones.
As a general rule I "play out" the story as we create the figures, which connects from the concepting stage to the sculpting, right on through to the eventual production. It's been a continuous "game" (like you'd play when you were a kid) that's been carrying on for literally decades, with new characters and old ones coming in and out of the play pattern. There's genuine affection for each and every figure that's stopped in from wherever this stuff comes from. I even fall asleep with these little buggers in my hands on the regular, so the love of this whole process is fairly undying, even after a decent amount of time experiencing all the twists and turns that accompany it.
Existing (and meaningfully expanding) for 100 waves is a testament to the love behind glyos and it's been really enjoyable to keep up with. I'm no artist so I'm glad it's not paints and canvases that Onell sell, I'd never be able to create the characters that I can with this line (and even if I could paint, I'm sure rendering characters on canvas wouldn't compare to holding them in my hands and placing them out in the world).
Your hints about sibling rivalry and Vor's uncles got me thinking that we might see the Delphi's brothers. I'd previously assumed that the Delphi's masters were their makers but maybe that's not right, are their masters actually older brothers? Or do the Delphi revieve orders from multiple sources?
Whether we see something that might have once given a certain pair of galactic trappers some trouble, or something that has had a hand (or other appendage) in much of the Glyos System's history since elden times, or just some neat runs of favorite molds, it's bound to be a blast!
(And if there's a Renegade of some stripe, well, that's just gravy.)
You might be seeing a hue of purplish magenta, accented with maybe a darker plum paint. Maybe.
You might also be seeing some brand new parts as well, possibly configured in a "standard' and "reverse" swap out, but maybe with three PVC colors instead of the usual two.
Also, you are also absolutely looking at the iced over reservoir located in our area, via the Edge of Space, of course.
No OSM this time, but you might find a few of the new arrivals interesting, as there are some loose connections to early concept drawings I did for that line many years ago (you can still find them here on the blog under the OSM tag).
Thanks! No Armorvors for this wave (they're coming back very soon though), but you might find what could be considered their elder uncles lurking around.
Ooo Elder uncles, eh? Might these ancient ones be a builders delight, much like the Vors or Delphi? I’m curious, what’s the parts count on these? -Witchwitchwitch
100 and counting! Congrats all around. And we start off with a teaser that feels like Killer Carp colors in Metallic Pink this time. My eyes can't help but see a 'vor shoulder and something in-line with Cappy's Veiled head. Can't wait to see it.
Any guest stars also stopping by? When will we get to see more about that Pheyaos-connected kit sitting on your desk during Game of Hope? Can I still hope for Rechlen, Aves, and Glip to pop up? Do Waves start lying about their age now that they've hit the century mark? All these questions and more coming your way as the weekend approaches.
Thank you Mr. Duke! You will be seeing some magenta-ish PVC, for certain. You pointing out a connection to the strange noggins that inhabit the Cappyspace are not unwarranted. we're both major fans of all things aquatic, so you might witness what could be considered their cousins (for uncles, see above).
Ohohoho I'm excited. Amazing to see y'all reach 100 waves, and if this teaser is anything to go by, then whatever's under the water there is gonna be wild. Looking forward to it.
Thanks Sophie! One of the new characters on deck has been around as a concept, then a long delayed and project shuffled head, for over a decade.
Finally seeing it emerge from a certain kind of limbo and landing somehow right where it was always meant to be, brings a deeper satisfaction than usual, mostly because it was at long last time to place one seriously weird piece in the puzzle.
Metallic Pink!!! Plz say we’ve got metallic pink w/ matching accessories!! The image above suggest matter in transition, a solid melting into a liquid…something revealed, long lost, or late to the party? I wonder what changes are coming to the Glyos system… -Witchwitchwitch
I think we're going to have to run some metallic pink this year, even if it's just for you guys in this particular comments thread! For now, you will be witness to some magenta (and some plum)!
Ancient things will be in focus, some of them with tentacles and a case of serious sibling rivalry.
Both colors sound tasty to me! Magenta is no disappointment. I remember you saying the Delphi would have their hands full this wave. Can we expect to see a few new Delphi colors as well? -Witchwitchwitch
NICE!!! I'm excited, count me down for some Glyos madness. 🙌 Great Odin's RAVEN- how is this the HUNDRETH release from you guys? I'm blown away at how long Glyos has been around AND been a part of my daily life.
Now I got back to my laboratory to sew together more creatures bwahaha! 🤪
I still remember when we first met all those years ago! It's the best that you're still pushing your creativity and venturing into new territory, even during times of hardship. I don't think I know or have ever met a more resilient person than you, Chris.
Thank you again for the absolutely amazing new plush figures you've been making and sharing with us. I think many folks will come to love them when the time comes for your project to surface.
Yep I remember it was at Toy Fair and you saw my name badge after getting off the phone with Doc and said "Hey! I just packed up an order for you!" And that was from the first Buildman drop. It keeps me going honestly, I never used to think of myself as resilient, it just has to get done so I do it.
You're totally welcome sir! I've been drawing off and on all day and have made at least 3 new plush figure drawings- with at least 2 more gestating right now. I'm curious to what people will think, but it will be fun either way.
Damn, did we reach 100 already? It doesn't feel like all that long ago when you were talking about new possibilities for the line, like buildmen and axis joints... congratulations on being such a powerhouse in the independent toy market!
Thank you, Nate! I still think about all the great NYCC trips and those golden times together. You always made sure we discovered the very best spots to eat!
Those were the days, i wouldn't change them for anything. I hope i can get out to one of the cons you hit soon, i miss hanging out, I'm stuck down in Florida now, but i would love to see you guys again
A rabbit wouldn't be a bad addition to the ranks, though Jesse D already made one of the best Glyos versions to date. Maybe we'll see somebody make a duck soon, or a jaguar. Or maybe another kind of snake.
100th drop, sometimes it seems like it's only been a short time that I've been down this rabbit hole. All Good Times to say the least, Friends and family have been made over the years through you & the rest of the crew mates. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us tomorrow night.
Wow, Wave 100, big congrats! Always ready to see what's next, so keep the waves coming! Very excited to see who's gonna warp in at drop time Monday night. On top of new releases, will any recurring characters be making an appearance? Last wave had Hades, will anyone else from the past show up to warn the Gloss System of the danger that is to come? So glad to have found this bizarre pocket of space and all the weirdos that inhabit it, both plastic and living.
Been having a blast with you guys since Wave 12 when I first discovered this wonderful toyline. Incredibly excited to see where you take your figures from here. Fingers crossed we get to see the adventures of Rechlen and Aves in the near future. I've been dreaming about the adventures of that duo for a long time now. Congratulations Onell crew!! - Chris Black
100th release, I’m so happy this milestone finally got reached. Personally I’m sensing some kind of aquatic biped with a habit for creating psychic life forms.
Been hanging out since 2011 wave 16. Taskforce volkriun. it's crazy where everything started and to see all the different lines form from the humble begginings of the Beantown bots to everything that is going on now simply amazing that a self produced action figure line has had such a massive influence on so many different makers I can't wait to see what the future holds. Keep up the amazing work Matt and all the other makers.( Rechlen and Aves forever).
Man. The Founders came out when I was in middle school. I remember customizer Jin Saotome did some 3.75 hybrids with the original heads, and that took me down the rabbit hole. I didn't actually get to jump in until Task Force Volkriun because.... money, but I played every Passcode and waited until then. It's hard to believe that things have come this far, that there are so many concepts you guys have gotten to make together, so many collaborators and spinoff creations with their own lines, enough to have 'Glycon'. And it's been such a treat and an honor to see a taste of your evolution behind the scenes, to watch Caddy grow up and come into her own as an artist, to find a random 8-Bit-style Crayboth in a bag of stuff donated to the thrift store I worked at... (Central US!) Just... the scope of it all. Who'd've thunk? Congratulations to each of you, and to you, Matt. You've truly made it to the Edge of the Unknown... farther than any of us probably imagined.
A mighty congratulations on wave 100! What can even be said that hasn't been said already? It's been absolutely wild to see all the levels of creativity stacking on top of one another over the years as this toyline has grown and evolved. It's been a massive part of my own life, rekindling dormant parts of my imagination that I thought for sure were dead and gone forever. I feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled across this world when I did way back in 2010, and it's been a privilege getting to know you and the entire crew along the way in the process. Thank you for everything. Greatly looking forward to this drop and the worlds beyond!
Wave 100! So amazing! Sorting through all my Glyos figures the last few months has reminded me of how much awesomeness you have created and inspired through the community. Not only that, but paved the way and then unselfishly opened the door for a lot of us to be able to make our own toys. You have literally helped to make dreams come true. Thank you Matt! And a huge thank you to all those who have contributed to this amazing universe and community over the years. I love you folks!
Congrats on 100 waves Matt! I know I haven’t been around for them all, but I’ll definitely be checking this monumental wave tonight! Personal wish- a new collab with Mori and realhead!
Congratulations on hitting wave 100 to you and the rest of the Glyos family! What an incredible accomplishment. I came in a short time after the Henshin 2 wave back in February of 2011 when I had just turned 12 years old — courtesy of a “That New Toy Smell” video covering the line. Around now marks the 13th year I’ve spent playing with Glyos and I cannot begin to express just how tremendous an impact this line has had on me. The hours and hours I spent reading the comics, pouring over every blogpost and comment, playing the Passcodes, and busting my ass trying to make money just so I could save up to get my hands on a Rig are irreplaceable memories for me, and the fun has never stopped through the years. You’re a legend in my household, Matt. All the best to you and yours!
Congratulations on Wave 100! I feel like a latecomer having found my way here though Toypizza and the Skaterriun Vector Jump in wave 63, but have had an absolute blast reading through the accumulated stories and seeing the debut of designs like the sincroborgs. The creativity, kindness and enthusiasm of the Glyos fan community is something really special.
Yay so excitied can't believe it's been 100 waves, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Close to the finish line!

Thanks Roy! You've been around for most of the waves, so seeing you still checking in makes everybody around here feel very happy.
DeleteNo Renegades per say in this wave, but you will see some mechanical action.
And yes, definitely also some ancient action.
Wave 100?!?! Insane! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tim! Hopefully we'll keep the wheels on for Monday!
DeleteI see pink. I’m in trouble.
ReplyDeleteWell done staying in the game for SO MANY YEARS! I’ve had six kids in that time. Six. That’s a lot.
Pink (or something close) and white screams sushi. And water. I feel a hex coming on. A six sided hex. A hexagon.
A full circle with arcs cut out. They fit together. And they stand apart.
But I found my marbles this time. Some of them.
Congrats!

Holy crap wave 100… my first was wave 11 lol. Man time flies..
ReplyDeleteWe're all going gray (and also bald) together!

ReplyDeleteAnd if you look carefully, there are subliminal suggestions in that photo. :)

DeleteArmodoc?
ReplyDeleteNo Armodoc this time, though we're still continuing the internal discussion about possibly running one this year.
DeleteOh man that will be so cool! Bucket list item for me to buy one from a drop! :)
DeleteHappy 100th Drop to Onell Design! Thank you for all the toys and maintaining the best culture (humble, positive…) while paving the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you, my friend! Your builds and vivid character explorations have been excellent to watch evolve throughout the years.
DeleteWe have something coming in a couple waves down the road that might speak to your old love of small builds specifically.
My Rorschach result = an anthropomorphized rabbit head, I better follow that white rabbit...
ReplyDeleteA rabbit wouldn't be a bad addition to the ranks, though Jesse D already made one of the best Glyos versions to date. Maybe we'll see somebody make a duck soon, or a jaguar. Or maybe another kind of snake.

ReplyDeleteHi Matt, Which drop was the most memorable for you? Chris.
ReplyDeleteAny Manglor and/or Kaisyriax action??
