Edge Breaker

This vinyl build is my attempt at a more "heroically" proportioned character, something that would also be able to stand next to an original Takara Robotman/Biotron and sort of fit in scale wise. This is a very tall configuration as far as Glyos goes, clocking in a just over 11 inches from head to mecha boot thing.

The head (which forms the back part of a WARP Bike/Rig Runner) in particular is something that I've been wanting to pop on the right build as it was originally designed to look like an armored Traveler noggin (hence the three "teeth" and round inner dome). Jesse did a completely awesome build for our buddy Phil Reed of Battlegrip.com a while back that used this "head" on a crazy Devastator inspired configuration that was truly a knockout!

  1. Insane! What a truly fantastic build. That fella could easily go toe to toe with any giant robot. It would be neat to see a glimmer of Voss in his chest as a power source, perhaps a Voss Crayboth heart.

    1. Thanks Pete! I have an alternate build of this thing that actually does include some "inserts". I'll get some pics once I wrap it up. After that I'm busting out the paints again.

  2. Brilliant! Just got my order yesterday(Thanks!) and the clear vinyl is definitely "harder"... meaning more sturdy for giant builds! Sure, it's a little bit more difficult to work with, but the end result requires far less futzing with to keep stable.

Come on payday, I need more vinyl! Your last few builds have provided so many ideas.

    1. Thanks Rez, I'm happy you got a kick out of this build! The vinyl was produced on the firmer side so that the larger builds would have a better chance of holding up. Just remember to use a hair dryer and "hot box" to warm up the parts if you need to, before cutting. I do like modifying certain pieces while retaining more rigidity though.

  8. Holy crap. That thing is immense. You really need to post build recipes for these insane vinyl builds you've been making the last few days, although I don't think I have enough parts to dare attempt this monster. O_O Nicely done again Matt!

  9. Another great build. May have to order some more parts so I can build this monstrosity. How do the joints hold up under all that weight?

    1. Thanks Ed! The joints are tight, the construction holds up and the form does not collapse. I've found that cutting the holes a bit on the smaller side is a good start to a tighter fit, but also selecting certain areas to concentrate more weight helps the overall balance. This build has some meaty legs and is lighter though the chest and arms, so the center is sturdy, since it is bottom heavy. The "thighs" actually slide over an interior assembly, so that pressure creates an even denser feel.

  11. I third the request for a recipe of this. I'm seeing:

    2 Armodocs
    2 Rig Runners
    At least 4 extra sets
    At least 5 wedges
    At least 9 pins

I can't even begin to figure out the rest. Either way, it's awesome.

  12. I keep reading the title and seeing that Fear Factory song "Edge Crusher". Anyone else?

  13. Just mind blowing, man!
Between the chunky build and the bent knee stance, this is right up my cup of tea!
It never ceases to amaze me what mad awesomeness this system is capable of!

  14. Reminds me very much of the Mata Nui robot body from the Bionicle storyline.
