Fishing Around

That little Glyanaut got something rolling while I was building some stuff, resulting in a full spectrum of Adventure People inspired creations. As I was working on the designs, it became more and more clear that having fully interchangeable "human" proportioned characters is a welcome addition to the ranks and has me analyzing the 2" scale a little harder.

One of the goals from this series of constructions was to "nail the scale" with the Glyans, and I think the look presented above is the most in line for what would work, in aesthetics and functionality. I also really like the mysterious "helmeted" vibe these guys have, like it could be anyone under the hood. It reminds me of all the neat characters who would never show their actual face, their masks ironically being what defines them. That being said, I've been working on some human heads and they actually fit proportionally very well with the size and form factor of these new body constructions. I hope you guys get a kick out of these builds, and hopefully they get the juices flowing for a full scale Glyan invasion.

PS- The Fisher Price Adventure People line was one of the greatest damn piles of plastic that ever went into production. It still inspires me to this day with almost everything I do regarding toy development. What a play pattern those toys had.

  2. All of these are fantastic. Though one caught my eye. Is that production clear orange? Or are my eyes just failing me?
Also I love that these were inspired by Adventure People, I have fond memories of sifting through what my friend and I thought were "ancient" toys. Many of them adventure people. Gotta love the memories!

    As always, great work!

  3. Fantastic Builds Matt!

AP was one of the greatest lines ever.

I still say the Brainoid is one of the greatest action figures of all time.

  4. Thanks guys! AP had all the right elements perfectly combined. The simplicity of the designs coupled with the awesome color choices gave it a very distinct feel. The vehicles just put it over the top. I guess my favorite things were from the Space assortments, with Clawtron taking the throne.
I never had Brainoid as a kid, but my friend did, so I was always trying to smuggle it back home with me! The grey from the old "big helmet" astronaut was the inspiration for Pheyden's grey parts. Actually, many colors from AP have made their way into the Glyos color selections.

  5. Oh yeah! Josh, that is an all new production orange in clear. I would say it is my favorite clear orange yet, really leaning more towards the lighter hue of the color than the last darker orange Buildman we did. I've been wanting to hit this particular orange on the head for some time.

  6. Yes! Clear orange. These builds remind me of a Dr. Who episode I just watched: The Ambassadors of Death. Concept was a group of astronauts go up to space, but what comes down are their suits...with something else inside.

  7. Can we expect a release of the Glyanaut figures...please...

  8. Yeah, that clear orange is such a wonderful shade. A nice mix of yellow and orange, at least in my eyes. The type of orange that pairs perfectly with shades of gray. For that extra industrial look.

  9. Seconding Josh here: the new orange looks fantastic!

And again, a Blacktron reference! I'd probably use clear yellow for more of the original "old school" vibe, but between that and the original Glyonaut, I'm thinkin' some Beanbots are going to be in my future...

  10. I had very few AP figures as a kid.. but I know I had them... as much as I am a pop culture sucker, I have a big place in my heart for properties that, as far as I knew, didn't have a set storyline, since that allowed me to improvise much more... I'm dying to see all the things coming down the pike. so much goodness... hell, I just bought a few of the banimon buildmen/axis joints (the joints are sold out now... turns out joints are very popular with toy fans (huh? what do you mean that sounds illegal? you're nuts.. I'm talking about joints, not joints... sheesh...)

  11. I didn't have any AP when I was a kid...
but as an "adult" I snapped up a couple of astronauts at tagsales.

Recognized the one with the yellow right away, now I just need to get another of the rectangular beanbot groins.

  12. I have an orange guy with silver gloves and a half clear dome so you can see the guys face inside. It was my fathers and he gave it to me to play with when I was young. I really want to hit the attic and dig him out now.

  13. I still have my one lone Adventure Person, the Diver from the Deep Sea Diver Action Pack. It came with an octopus, brown treasure chest and yellow float attached to an orange hose that you plugged into the diver's helmet. I am really curious about these space figures though, I am going to google information about them after I post this. AWESOME builds though Matt, now I just need more bean-bot parts to make them all. :-D

  14. OH MY GOD the Brainoid is amazing. O_O I need to get this now, and the Male robot Clawtron is pretty awesome too. I really like that Alpha Interceptor vehicle too, curious to see clearer pictures of it. Gah now I'm getting interested in this line too, confound it Doughty! >_<

  15. @BahGlenn: I never had a Brainoid as a kid, but once I discovered it I had to have one. It's like everything cool and sci-fi alien retro in one!

It's very very hard to find one with a clear dome. Sadly the plastic they used on the Brainoid dome does not hold up as well as the other domes. While the others would at worst yellow, the Brainoid dome tends to cloud. You can somewhat improve the visibility by polishing it though. I used some manicure polish and the chamois polishing bit on my dremel.

  16. @ Ghostlion: How very "Vashta Nerada" :3

@ Matt: So, this has you reconsidering the whole thing, eh? I'm hoping that means more Rechlen & Aves stuff in the near future! I'd love to see more with those guys :)

  17. Those little guys are so cool.
Will they be available in your store eventually?
I think your first Glyonaut is still my favorite.

    Keep 'em coming.
