Back when the thought of creating something made of soft vinyl was just starting to come together, a very different creature almost made it to production level before the Armodoc was even designed.
The Repoclaimer was a Sincroid hunting juggernaut that would have marked our first foray into toys of a bigger scale and functionality. For multiple reasons this beef bomb ended up being put on hold when it was about 65% complete in favor of moving forward with what would become the Traveler hunting Armodoc. I guess the Sincroids got a "get out of jail free card" because of it.
Many projects almost make the grade, from Noboto to Rechlen and Aves. Some even go to steel and are not up to standard and have to be canceled, like a recent humanoid head with no helmet that kept deforming when pulled from the mold (this one still bugs me).
Over the next month we'll focus on some of these "Lost Projects". Hope you guys get a kick out of them.

Thanks bunches Matt. It's great to hear about these lost projects, I just hope this one makes it to production one day.
ReplyDeleteThis entry was inspired by you Brian! Thanks for still having interest in this oddball.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! I like this one, if it could open up and capture sincroids inside itself, I'd have to buy some (at least 2). I'm looking forward to the rest of this month's entries then; I love these behind-the-scenes posts. :-D
ReplyDeleteOh man, that is great to see. Has a baleen whale quality to it. Really hope something more beast like finds its way into production be it PVC or vinyl.
ReplyDeleteAny chance of a shot with a traveler for scale?
Hey Chris! You nailed it. That oval area on the "forehead" was to detach and leave an opening to store Sincroids in. This guys was the prototype in many ways for the Armodoc.
ReplyDeleteI like it... and I too, lament the lost helmet-less head... it really would be the foot in the door for rechlen... who I am still hoping gets his mass-produced due with Aves...
ReplyDeleteI hope you finish this guy at some point!
No disrespect to the Armodoc or Big Rig, but this guy destroys them both! Please tell me that this may still happen! :D
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't exactly call the Armodoc's a "Sincroid Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card." In any case, I was wondering what happened to some of the "Lost Projects," namely Rechlen & Aves. Good luck on that humanoid head. I'd really love to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteSo me holdin' the Repoclaimer for that whole car ride (your lucky it didn't end up in my backpack) means you are at the minimum, going to complete the sculpt right? Please, please, please do!

Man... he's such a malevolent looking character! Super impressive!
ReplyDeleteWhat's made me uncertain about the design in the past is the arm/leg combination. Was it meant to be an upright quadraped initially, or was that something that emerged as a structural necessity?
ReplyDeleteThe cephalothorax, however, is unquestionably boss. With some Axis Joint-infused limbs, I can see this becoming nightmare fuel incarnate pretty quickly.
Thanks for the feedback! I have a soft spot for this old design, even though it is so damn strange. The core idea for the form factor was a kind of hybrid between a whale, a spider and an ape. Things from the deep seem to find a way of influencing many of the creatures I create. Probably from all the time I spent near the ocean as a kid.
ReplyDeleteRight Marty? Ha!
Stalker Mode pic added! Forgot this one when we posted this batch earlier!
ReplyDeleteWhale-spider-ape. Nice. Stalker mode looks like a giant headcrab. Definitely liking the design.
ReplyDeleteBro, I will never forget the visit to the beach w/ you, Meg, and MJ...incredible moment for me...Doughty point has so much inspiration it was like peakin' inside your noggin'!!! Thanx 4 that opportunity!

Makes me wanna display my TF BW Tako Tank with my vinyl :P Oh, and yeah, I WANT !!!
ReplyDelete@Matt: Awesome! I like this idea a bit better then the Armodoc as after seeing the photo Phil Reed took of it and posted over at battlegrip.com, the size of the Repoclaimer is MASSIVE compared to a traveler figure. That giant noggin' of his could fit at least 6-to-8 Pheyden sized figures inside. I'd totally pay $30 for this bad boy. I'd love to have a battle with some canne'boids vs this titan. O_O
ReplyDeleteEven if the physical product didn't come together, perhaps this could make an appearance in comic or animation form down the line.
