Flatwalker

Created by Gatekeeper Viyer in his clandestine laboratory, the Noboto Protoclone has been refined and produced in greater numbers for use by Glyaxia Command.

Under the watchful eye of Commander Akurriax, the Glyaxia Protoclones study and modify the transforming abilities of the 
Tri Hub Configuration (THC) Flatwalker. 

Designed to quickly adapt to its surroundings, the Flatwalker operates mainly as a surveillance device for Glyaxia Command, relaying all gathered information instantly back to Block Base.

Preparations

Glyaxia Command has been keeping us busy!

After lots of behind the scenes tweaking, building and picture editing, we're finally ready to share the latest round of stuff.

I've personally been wanting to do this particular wave since the vinyl waves of 2012, and the original Glyaxia release of 2010 still holds a special place in my heart, representing a turning point in our entire mode of operation.

The colors on this new round of PVC and vinyl are very bright and vibrant, looking a little punchier than the original run. The old Fisher Price Adventure People vibe is present, and playing with vinyl again has been the absolute best.

Thanks so much for making it possible for us to get to this point, seeing a Glyaxia Command Block Base has only existed in my dreams -until now.

Glyaxia Update

Been quietly working away over here, preparing the new Glyaxia Wave for release. The production on all the parts has taken some extra time, to really get everything just right. In true Glyaxia tradition, the tentative rollout date has now been bumped to May 11th. It must be something about my old high school colors that causes things to stay back a little.

On a related note, playing with the vinyl Tri Hubs and Switch Pins again has been an absolute blast. Being able to just cut into anything and create a function is hard to beat as far as unlimited creativity goes within a building system.

Pics are almost ready to start flowing, but I wanted to finalize the new base and a couple of strange configurations before we travel back to Glyaxia Command.
  

The Walking Dud

Today we welcome an all new figure into the Glyos family, manifesting in the form of Adam Smith's full production Walking Dud menace!

Adam Smith is the founder of True Cast Studio, which also houses the talents of Joshua Edwards, Patrick Quinn and the illustrious mustachioed master, Marty "The Godbeast" Hansen.

Marty has known Adam for many years, learning many of his early mold making tricks from the left handed molding ace, long before many of us ever considered the possibilities of resin.

Thanks to the talented combo of Adam (Dud base sculpt), Jason Frailey (hyper detail finish) and Marty (promotion and production assistance), The Walking Dud has made the leap from hellish handmade harbinger of doom to full fledged production PVC.

Projects like the Dud show a different side to the growth of Glyos as a whole, shining the spotlight on figural aspects that are not necessarily solely focused on build potential, but primarily on character design and classic action figure applications. More Socket Poppers than Buildman, which makes the spectrum of collecting all the more inviting. I personally love that the Dud shares the unified functionality of the joints, yet like the Power Lords, is not compromised aesthetically by its inclusion.

Down the road, I think we'll be seeing more projects like the Dud enter into into the mix, taking us into all new territories and spicing up the mix.

You can pick up the very first Test Shot production pieces of The Walking Dud this weekend, April 24th-25th, at C2E2 in Chicago, Illinois at the the Nerd City Booth (#750). This special edition is extremely limited and makes its debut in the same "Neo Phase" translucent neon green that we have run over here before. This particular hue is a sight to behold in person, changing drastically under different light sources and makes for an awesome combination with the Dud's superbly sculpted splatterhouse looks! Rumor has it that a certain battling beetle may also surface in this explosive green sometime in the next few months...

Happy Easter! Michelle, Cady, CC and I hope you and your families have a great day (the mayhem started here at 5AM)!

Things have been pretty quiet here on the blog for the past few weeks, due to some major hours being logged in up at the shop, coupled with preparing for the next wave of stuff centering around the return of Glyaxia. Hopefully when everything comes into clearer focus, you will enjoy what you see.

Speaking of the next round, the tentative release date has been scheduled for Sunday, May 4th at 9:30PM EST. Production of the new Glyaxia order has taken a bit, as extra time was required to nail the fit and finish on all the stuff. It's been a while since we've run so much vinyl, so a few things had to be pulled off the shelf and reactivated to produce everything that we wanted to fit into this assortment.

The timing bump to May also effectively ends the monthly release schedule for 2014, which in light of the heavy frequency of offerings from across the boards, may not be such a bad thing. Some months may run in succession again, but the space between the big and little waves will spread out some more. It was fun to push the envelope, but the accompanying risk of overload has been clearly illustrated and we're tweaking the plan to keep the ship on track.

Thank you for all the feedback so far this year, your individual opinions really do make a difference and we take everything into consideration as each decision is made around here.

Ni has something extra special happening with his latest release, which is scheduled for tonight, April 6th at 8PM EST.

With the debut of all new full production helmets, heads and add-ons, the Outlander can now be reconfigured into a wider array of characters, including the menacing looking Leyden hybrid in the pic shown above! All the new Outlander colors match right up with the recent waves of GITD, Black Metallic and Ultra Silver.

Shipping Update

As of this afternoon, almost every order since the release last Sunday has been packed and shipped out, with only the international orders left to complete by the end of today.

Thanks to all of you who stopped by on Sunday night!

These Alternate Month releases seem to be finding a decent rhythm, with the production numbers covering most of the demand for the new figures. Charging more for the extra paint on the Travelers makes me uneasy, but it was necessary if we wanted to give them all the bells and whistles and still stay in business. Though the higher price is not something I'm psyched about, being able to run these deluxe versions within much smaller assortments allows for not only a change of pace, but also an opportunity for more experimentation. Figures with more elaborate decos and detail lines, like the new Sullkren and Dark Traveler, are also easier to produce with a more dedicated and contained wave.

The continuing theme with these Alternate Month releases will be specially painted figures, ranging from all new characters to those that you may already know. Come the end of May, the LSA will make their first production appearance in their Standard colors, pulling their hues directly from the old Rechlen and Aves photo book (pages 25 and 26) albeit with a factory applied touch. The production numbers for this May LSA release are higher than normal, and there will be no limits.

Switching gears to this month, the new Glyaxia Wave is coming along on schedule, and after looking over the production samples, I think we should have some fun with this batch! Vinyl will be in effect, as well as some new paint applications on a few figures. Pics will start filtering in very soon.

To wrap up, I want to extend an extra special thank you for the continued support, especially with so many neat things out there from other makers to choose from.

When we started this project, the dream was to create a universe with no limits, a place that would grow with your imagination. It's only because each of you continue to give this concept a chance that we survive, almost 7 years after the first little production Pheyden crossed over from his world into ours.

Super Robots Giant Monsters Show

In the midst of the activities happening this weekend, our friends over at Collection DX will be putting on a brand new event called Super Robots Giant Monsters in Lowell, Massachusetts! Falling on Saturday, March 29th, from 11AM -7PM, this special showcase will feature an eclectic group of artists and vendors from all around the Northeast, an Art Exhibit and also a Toy Exhibit -curated by 3D Printing and CAD ace, Sanjeev Selvaraj!

I've personally known Josh over at CDX for a long time, watching him build his website into something very impressive over the years. The amount of effort put into this one of a kind show is another example of Josh's desire to create something unique and exciting, for all of us to participate in and enjoy. It has been an honor for us to be able to help sponsor the event, and we're really looking forward to meeting up with some of you guys in person on Saturday.

We'll have a special area set up for Glyos related stuff featuring our partners in crime:

New Mini Release

This weekend, on Sunday, March 30th at 9:30PM EST, we will have a Mini Release of a few new figures, along with the restock of Ultra Silver, GITD green and Black Metallic Axis Joint Sets.

This Mini Release will see the return of a couple detail lined figures, in the form of Commander Sullkren MK II, as well as the very first detail lined Dark Traveler. These two figures also have brand new painted areas, some of which make their debut with this round. For the very first time (after nearly 7 years) , Travelers will have full production painted shoulders, shoulder tampos, bottoms of the feet, and fronts of the feet. Coupled with the painted areas on the tops of the hands, these two figures feature the most factory applied paint on a Traveler release to date.

On a related note, the gray colors of the new Sullkren and Dark Traveler are not exact color matches to the 2012 ZED wave, but do fall within the same family.

Also on deck for this Sunday is Argen MK XI, in his Black Metallic "Dark Argen" color selection. This look matches the recent Black Metallic Kabuto Mushi that TGB just released last week.

Last but not least is the Gold Noboto, or "Goldboto". Some of these escaped in the big February shipping process last month, and now the rest of the Goldbotos want to hit the road as well!

A complete detailed list will be up soon (the detail lined figures come with lots of extra parts- much like Hades did last month), but the quick list is:

I know that this wave comes right on the heels of recent Glyos related releases from TGB and Toyfinity, but sometimes the production schedule lands everything right in a row. We'll see how the response goes, as this Mini Release project is still a work in progress. The next big wave is planned for the end of April (Glyaxia), which we are still on track for. After that we're shooting for very small late May wave, then a restock of the Buildstation in late June.

Having these deluxe versions out and about has been a lot of fun, especially on walks outside. The detail lines add a certain depth of realism to the photo shoots, and remind me a lot of the old days. I've really enjoyed taking location shots as the seasons start to change again.

New Robo Force Rollout

The Toyfinity Team has a great new round of stuff scheduled for release tonight, March 23rd, at 9PM EST over in their store!

Both PVC colors for this assortment match right up to the Ultra Silver and GITD green of our recent February wave, as well as the Kabuto Mushi swarm attack from last week.

The original Sentinel has always been one of my favorite Robo Force characters, sporting a compact yet sleek look to its core body design. The new Sentinel (shown above), was designed to hopefully evoke that classic 80's structure, but also allow for maximum customization potential.

On a related note, as we were working on the Robo Force parts it became pretty clear that with a little pushing and pulling, the head geometry of Sentinel and Enemy could be connected, resulting in a reversible design that could also serve as chest armor for Hun-Dred. The whole figure is kind of a Mecha Puzzle.

Having an already established cast of characters adds a different dimension to the process of making a toy, especially a property like Robo Force. The Toyfinity/Onell teams absolutely wanted to make sure that we honored the classic toy series, yet incorporate brand new elements that would give the modern figures options that did not exist before. Had the classic Robo Force toys perhaps featured some more modular parts, the experience of playing with them might have been a more creative and long lasting one. I do still love those old mech-frigerators, though.

It can be a bit of a tightrope redesigning something that fans of the original hold dear, and I know that all of us involved in bringing Robo Force back put everything we had into the project, because we are those very fans.

New Kabuto Mushi MK II Release

Our good friend Marty "The Godbeast" Hansen has prepared an all new assortment of Kabuto Mushi MK II colors for release tonight, March 18th, at 8 PM CST over in his store.

Marty spent lot of time selecting the special metallic blue and purple that are included in this wave of figures, comparing tons of colors in search of just the right combination.

Pushing the limits of what the PVC can achieve with select additives has been a running theme around here for a while now, but with Marty's specific eye for vibrancy things have been pushed even further than ever before. He absolutely has a natural gift for choosing cool color combos.

Additionally, Marty will be offering three Kabuto Mushis that match our recent February round of plastics, featuring Ultra Silver, GITD green (shown above) and Metallic Black! The Metallic Black looks particularly menacing on the KM MKII mold.

Tonight marks the second official wave of Kabuto Mushi MK II full production figures, and our whole family wishes Marty the best of luck tonight as he unleashes another swarm of his fantastic figure.

I've been literally waiting decades for a Colossus Rex like this.

Redesigned by the legendary Mel Birnkrant and sculpted by the inimitable Four Horsemen, the fully painted Rex shown above is really an out of this world figure.

I couldn't resist taking Rex outside today for a little battle with the completely outmatched Traveler Lymerran Pheyden (even with some Ultra Silver armor on). Who knows, maybe it was just a training exercise. Either way, it was quite surreal to take pictures of one of my personal super grails -an Infinity Edition of the remastered Rex!

The 4H have the whole new assortment of Infinity Editions OSM in stock now, including my childhood favorite, the mighty Man from Jupiter, Colossus Rex.

Huge, HUGE congratulations to Mel and the 4H for completing a cycle that was started all the way back in 1968! This line is without a doubt an integral piece of toy history, and I believe as the years roll on, it will become much clearer just how unique of an accomplishment bringing the OSM back to life has truly been.
