What an odd trio. Kind of big as well. The colors were based on the first run of Pheyden, with a Gear's Edge finish on the beige test type. The finals would have been fully painted, with color applications far exceeding our PVC stuff in complexity.
When I look at these figures I initially really like them, then I start to pick them apart. They are sort of interesting in their own little way. It's especially cool to hold a Pheyden that is at a larger size., because it feels so counter to everything we've done.
I sometimes think about taking a complete detour and making an old school super poseable Toy Biz style Traveler, maybe with tons of strange joints and piles of layered plastic armor. Then it passes and I realize that it would be insane to go down that road.
But it's also kind of tempting.
Those are some pretty big travelers! The bases are amazing, and I find the intense detail quite interesting. It's certainly a different view on the old Pheyden design, much more organic.
ReplyDeleteThere's something very "David meets the Engineers" about that picture. ;)
ReplyDeleteThese are neat! I like MF's suggestion, they'd be killer in a base setup as statues or monuments. However overall I'd find their usage pretty limiting.
ReplyDeletePersonally I'm not a huge fan of lines that introduce a ton of different scales.. I'd rather see new stuff in one scale than the same characters in 4 different sizes. Whenever they do I just stick to one sized line rather than a bunch. My favorite(?) thing about Glyos is that you've found a way to take a variety of designs and materials and mash them all together into a huge buildable world. If a giant traveller were to make an appearance I'd hope he'd still be compatible either in vinyl or pvc!
Matt these are incredible love the proportions - really hope you pick them up again
ReplyDeleteGotta love Robo Force hiding behind the pieces.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I would poop prairie dogs for a 6" articulated Pheyden with warp gear accessories.
ReplyDeleteWow. These are amazingly cool. There's so many differences from the Pheyden's current sculpt though. Those flat/sloped feet, the shoulderpads and gauntlets... There's been a lot added to the general look that almost detracts from the simplicity of the Travelers' looks.
ReplyDeleteVery neat, though I can see why you did not go through with them. Thanks so much for sharing all of these great looks into the creative process!
Amazing. Thanks for showing these to us.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are fantastic and strange! That being said, I'm glad you've stuck to the peg and socket system.
ReplyDeleteI have super enjoyed all of these projects and appreciate you sharing them with us.
It's certainly a fascinating piece!
ReplyDeleteAny thoughts of adapting the stands with glyos pegs? They would make great playsets.
Those are awesome. Looks like Hades has stumbled into a room of Gods.
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaaaant! (means... LOOOOOVE IT!) :)
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaaaant! (means... LOOOOOVE IT!) :)
ReplyDeletePheydens! Look out! It's HUN-DRED!
ReplyDeleteAnd, uh, a giraffe.
And some Power Lords figures too, I see Adam Power to the right of the Giraffe & "Disguizor" directly behind it. It's just an 80's toy reunion going on. :-D
DeleteWe really don't have all the giraffe figures we could have. Just sayin'. (Looking at Marty for a new Armorvor head.) :)
ReplyDeleteThat Gear's Edge variant looks like it could be a carved tribute on some long-forgotten world, to a long-forgotten "hero" that came and went without warning.
ReplyDeleteIf at all possible, it'd be great to see a dio like that.
Man, I want an alter pheyden!
ReplyDeleteYou should change your mind, Matt :p
